A 3-day Community-Managed Disaster Risk Reduction Training was conducted by Cebu Caritas and Caritas Germany on May 4-6, 2023 at One Central Hotel in Cebu City.

The overall goal of the training is to capacitate Cebu Caritas Disaster Risk Reduction Management Volunteers to better equip them to handle both man-made and natural disasters and emergencies through CMDRR principles and strategies.

36 participants from the Cebu Caritas Staff and representatives of selected parishes joined the CMDRR Training.

Caritas Philippines and Caritas Italiana Accompanier Dionisio Jr. Arellano gave a comprehensive discussion on CMDRR, Core Humanitarian Standards and Volunteer Management.

Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) Volunteers Herman Namoro, Orly John Gedaro, and Jose Ramon Cinco also gave an orientation on pre-hospital first aid.

Drs. Jabin Deguma and Melona Case-Deguma shared their knowledge on Basic Psychological First Aid.

Caritas Germany Country Coordinator Crizelle Anne Benitez introduced the Rapid Needs Assessment.

Cebu Caritas Digital Media Specialist Max Limpag gave inputs on documentation and the use of drone camera and Starlink devices. While Ms. Katherine dela Calzada shared a situationer on Cebu Province’s Disaster Risk Reduction program.

A Rite of Commissioning was also officiated by Cebu Caritas President Fr. Alex Cola, Jr. and Cebu Caritas Program Director Fr. Alden John Baran.
